Petition from Egypt

A friend from Egypt asks me to spread the word, the plea contained on his writing… a voice from the desert that many of us hope that was listened.

Retweet. Reblog. Resend.

Spread the voice. Wake up. Rise up.

Dear All,

PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL WHO MAY BE CONCERNED!

Egypt in Feb 2011 is suffering under the change (only 6 months to have it ready for the FIRST DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS UNDER NEW CONSTITUTION).

As the people of the world, there are few things you can do my friends:
1-T shirts or some posters with words like ‘Tahrir’ or Egyptian flag colors (Red, White, and Black) on it carried by your friends, families, club, or local community (should never be related to your government) and send photo on my FB profile or anyother Egyptian you know asking to show to their family and friends in Egypt. You may also upload Phone videos also showing why Tahrir or Egyptians are inspiration to persons in your neighbourhood, office, family, etc.
WHY? Egyptians are still not sure where they’re heading, some simple emotional support helps GREATLY in facing the difficulties of the time and continue towards a democracy.

2-Have a flight to Egypt to spend time in non-luxirous low-value eco-lodges on beaches or in mountains to revive the tourism there (I can send many contacts on that later)
WHY? Tourism is hit hard and impacting millions of Egyptians and that even able Egyptians cannot help much with. It’s by helping those that their suffering will not steal the focus of what’s necessary to establish a democracy.

3-Talk to your Gov’t that Egyptians need quick and urgent education on Democracy in its streets, clubs, TV programs, and not only through ‘official’ channels of embassies, etc. (Civil Society here is quite strong and able to lead that if directed to streets)
WHY? many centuries after being occupied, we need to unlearn much and learn the ‘reality’ of democracy (mainly peaceful transfer of power, and free non-arranged elections and long rule of one mighty party). This needs help from all over the world by material we can translate of the duties and rights of nominees and citizens, how to monitor over the rulers, mechanisms that could be applied in a moderate economy like Egypt to maintain human rights, etc.

Please forward the last part to whoever you wish to act quickly on that. Egypt’s transitional phase will only last 6 months of make-it-or-break-it towards democracy!

Salaam
